Published December 3rd, 2009, Sandy Kim Solo Show and Book Release
By Ian S. Port
With the prevalence of digital cameras, everyone thinks they’re a great rock photographer these days. But local gal Sandy Kim takes pretty killer shots of musicians, far removed from the stage setting. (Her work reminds me a little ofRyan McGinley)
She’s gotten a ton of exposure this year, as one band she took stunning press shots for, Girls, took off internationally. Her collection also includes images of Hunx and His Punx and others from that scene.
Tonight Kim has a solo show at Ever Gold gallery (441 O’Farrell st. btw Taylor & Jones) that also marks the release of her photo book on Unpiano. The opening kicks off at 6 p.m., and if you stick around long enough, you never know who could show up to perform a couple tunes live.
